Fifth Grade Introduction

It was wonderful talking to all of you during conferences.  As I mentioned to many of you, this quarter is going to be PACKED with learning!

MAP testing begins the first week of April.  Please check the classroom calendar for our scheduled testing times.  Appointments and time out of class should be made around these dates and times.  Thank you.

Fourth quarter areas of study include:

                     Math-fractions, measurement, perimeter, area

                     social studies-American Revolution

                     science-DARE, matter

                     reading-reading menus, content area reading

                    grammar-adjectives, prepositions

                    religion-sacraments

It is imperative that students be fluent in their math facts, especially multiplication.  This will help tremendously when working with fractions. 

In social studies, we look forward to some fun in our American Revolution study.   Students will be assigned an identity and role play during the Stamp Act, First and Second Continental Congresses.  There is also an independent project students will be responsible to complete.  For the finale, we will present the play "13 Colonies"

In science, we finish DARE.  Details on the graduation will come home as the time gets closer.  Students should currently be working on their DARE commitment statement.  To be a graduate, students must successfully write their commitment statement.  In addition to DARE, we will learn about matter.  There should be lots of fun exercises that go along with exploring matter.
